Class 18: Access to Asylum
In order to receive asylum, a noncitizen must demonstrate that she qualifies as a refugee under the code. But like many other grounds of admission, there are a number of grounds which preclude otherwise eligible immigrants from receiving asylum. In recent years, the Trump administration has adopted a series of additional regulatory restrictions on access to asylum, culminating in CDC orders related to the covid pandemic that have all but shut down access to asylum screening for most immigrants..
